Coming to you as Best of Netflix Canada is this tale of the Grinch (Jim Carrey), who sincerely hates Christmas and the Whos and does so with great venom, occasionally pulling dangerous and harmful practical jokes on them, to prove this. Meanwhile, six-year-old Cindy Lou (Taylor Momsen) believes everyone is lost the spirit of Christmas, as he or she seemed more concerned about the gifts and festivities. After Miss Lou has a face-to-face encounter with the Grinch at the Post office, in which he saved her life, she became interested in his story. As the story goes, the Grinch was apparently adopted by two elderly sisters.

Though he had shown some sadistic tendencies as a child, the Grinch was rather quite timid and not cruel, a selfish person as he would eventually become. Miss Lou, touched by this story, decides to make the Grinch a key participant of the Whobilation, much to the displeasure of Mayor May Who (Jeffrey Tambor), who eventually caves in to pressure from his townspeople. While here, the Grinch has an epiphany about the fact that Christmas is not just about material gifts, but spending time quality with loved ones. How it made into best of netflix canada, see below!

“Good plot, good play by characters. Worth watching with family”

– The Movie Hub

What is good about this movie is the story/plot behind it. It is a movie with a heart, told in that Best of Netflix Canada style. It is a gripping tale of how a man so vile, in appearance and character, could become transformed by the power of love, with the help of the most little of persons. This movie shows you that the spirit of Christmas lies, not in the act of just giving and taking of gifts, but in the quality time spent together with our loved ones. This movie is a cent Best of Netflix Canada, and you should definitely watch it!

“I did not feel okay while watching this movie. It is not that good!”

– Amazon Review

What is bad about this movie is the heavy usage of makeup for Jim Carrey’s character, the “Grinch”. The result was a Jim Carrey who tried to drive this movie to the point where he could literally own it, but couldn’t. A scary-looking Jim Carrey is not alluring; a funny Jim Carrey is! If only there were a way Jim Carrey’s facial features could have been showcased. Roger Ebert, in his review, stated that the movie was “a dank, eerie, weird movie about a sour creature who…steals everyone’s Christmas presents.” This, however, doesn’t mean the movies doesn’t qualify for Best of Netflix Canada.

This movie is worth watching,(worthy enough to be included in best of Netflix Canada) with pre-teens and adults. It may not be suitable for children under age 8; as some of the character, the Grinch, played by Jim Carrey would be quite scary to them. Though the reviews that have flowed on for this movie has been that of mixed feelings, as regards whether it would be a great movie to watch, especially on Christmas day. However, if you want to see how a witty Jim Carrey-rescue Grinch stole some of our good old Christmas spirits, then you folks should see this movie. You won’t be surprised on how this movie made into the Best of Netflix Canada.

Christmas with the Kranks

Another great flick from Best of Netflix Canada is Christmas with Kranks. According to the plot, Luther Krank (Tim Allen ) suggests to his wife Nora (Jamie Lee Curtis ) that they should invest the money they spent on decorations, gifts, and entertainment, on a ten-day Caribbean cruise instead. She, at start, reluctantly agrees under the condition that they still give a donation to the church and Children’s Hospital.

The Kranks are amazed to discover that many folks were not happy with their decision to boycott spending Christmas at home. Those most critical of their decision…were their neighbors Vic Frohmeyer (Dan Aykroyd) and Walt Scheel (M. Emmet Walsh ), who happens to be the unelected leader of the street, organizes a campaign to coax the Kranks into decorating their home so Hemlock Street will not lose the coveted award for best decorations. Vic has both political and bureaucratic connections, while Walt has a personal ax to grind with Luther. It ends in a win for the spirit of Christmas.

“Loved it. The way the story unfolds, and everything is portrayed so well! I recommend it!”

– Bob, Plugged In

What is good about the movie, that even got into Best of Netflix Canada list, is the fact that the director, Joe Roth painted a crisp picture of the yuletide season as the villain, as opposed to the Grinch. It portrays the evils and selfishness that could be perpetrated by people for pecuniary gains, all in the name of reviving the spirit of Christmas; and how the “if, you cannot beat them, join them” syndrome has eaten deep into our fabric as humans. It is a family comedy that ended up becoming an x-ray into the ills of the society.

“Not a waste of time, but not the best way to spend you time as well”

– The Movie Hub

We jot down best of netflix canada not only on the basis of how good the movie was, but also mentioned drawbacks. What is bad about the movie is the fact that it had to exert much energy in showing how much hate people could get, from their neighbors, for choosing to be different, or take a break from the norm. It is not as funny and witty as one would expect a holiday (Christmas) movie to be like. In the end, the protagonists(the Kranks) get to succumb to the wiles and coercion of their neighbors, to serve their various selfish desires all in the name of Christmas celebration.

Overall, if you want the Best of Netflix Canada, and want to watch this movie—as family holiday treat—then this movie might not live up to your expectation. As it clearly isn’t funny and fun-filled in the way that kids would want a Christmas holiday movie to be like. However, if you are looking for that kind of Christmas holiday movie that carries the overtones of unraveling the injustice perpetrated by politicians and business executives, as well as your supposed friendly neighbors, in the name of celebrating the spirit of Christmas; then quickly visit. Worth to be mentioned as best of netflix canada? We knew it!

Of these two Best of Netflix Canada movies, Movie 2 (Christmas with the Kranks) is way better to watch on Christmas Eve than Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas. I would rather look at a Christmas holiday flick that conversely showcases man’s inhumanity to man, than to stare continuously at a grotesquely costumed Jim Carrey playing the scary-looking and polarized Christmas hater, Grinch. Christmas with Kranks might not be funny, but Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas is not funny or appealing either. Log onto Netflix and watch Best of Netflix Canada for yourselves!
