House of Cards (HOC) is the first Netflix original, created by Beau Willimon. A US version of the British miniseries by the same name, House of Cards, is a political drama that follows a relentless politician, Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacy), in his quest for power and eventually a term in DC. The show trended for four seasons and has been renewed for a fifth season to be aired in 2017.

In the pilot episode the tone and premise is set as Frank as a ruthless pragmatic politician. In season 1 Frank, a democrat congressman suffers betrayal from his party members, including the President and decides to take revenge. Frank lets his wife, Clair Underwood (Robin Wright), in on the plan who doesn’t try to discourage him.

Season 1, 2 and 3 Frank navigates the dangerous waters of Capitol Hill and traps, frames, and murders his colleagues to gain more and more power and finally the seat of president ship which he has be vying for. There are a lot of subplots that are interesting characters but they get limited screen time. Season 4, introduced a terrorist organization by the name of Islamic Caliphate Organization. The show is done in breaking the fourth wall style which is very difficult to do but Spacey seems to have nailed it.

THE GOOD

Appreciated Kevin Spacey’s acting said the show was bolstered by “strong performances”. Others called the show “a slick, engrossing drama that may redefine how television is produced.”

– Various critics

Best of Netflix Canada feels that by the time season 3 rolled out fan’s interest started to dwindle, so season 4 tried to recapture that. Having said that, best of Netflix Canada feels that the show got into the prestige drama club right from the start and it got all the raves along with a couple of Emmy nominations. Best of Netflix Canada found that performance by Kevin Spacy was loved by everyone and Robin Wright has been able to match steps with him.

THE BAD

The show unnecessarily complex and deadly boring, filled with political shenanigans and questionable subplots that served no real purpose.

– Washington Post

Best of Netflix Canada found that House of Card was weighted down by its own seriousness. After season 2, shows popularity chart dropped massively. Best of Netflix Canada feels that the show lack all forms of action as we know it, other than one or two cold blooded murders.

OUR VERDICT

Best of Netflix Canada recommends must watch for audiences that have the appetite for soaps on politics and have the stamina to pay attention to action that is delivered through dialogues alone. The show has stayed the same throughout the four seasons. For people into political drama type thrillers this show is absolutely not to be missed. For the rest of you, recommendation by Best of Netflix Canada is must watch as well, since this show has also become kind of a benchmark and is brought up in conversations every now and then, it won’t be a good idea to pass this one on.

Orange is the New Black

Orange is the New Black (OITNM) is another Netflix Original US comedy drama series, created by Jenji Kohan (creator of “Weed”) and is based on Piper Kerman’s memoir by the same name. It is also a best of Netflix Canada- as voted by many viewers.

The show tells the story of Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling), who finds herself in a minimum security women’s prison, Litchfield Penitentiary, due to past relationship with a drug dealer Alex (Laura Prepon). Season one trends on the cultural shock Piper gets once inside; her struggle with prison atmosphere, food and hygiene and generally just adjusting to her new life as an inmate. A lighthearted comedy season 1 just tells stories of the people Piper gets acquainted with. Piper meets Alex who is also doing a stretch in the Litchfield Penitentiary. Season 2 onwards the show becomes serious and characters get into extreme situations. However season 2 was still provided some comic relief to the viewers. Season 2 and 3 continue the same theme. Characters reveal more and more of themselves. Season 4 introduces some new characters (mostly guards) and ties the inmates’ stories with what goes on in the outside world. Season 4 had a cliffhanger kind of heartbreaking ending. It is rated as one of the best season of the series.

Inmates are funny and the general atmosphere behind the bars is lighthearted and upbeat. Season 4 recaptured viewer’s interest which was withering away in season 3. Season 4 ended in an emotional thriller.

THE BAD

A bit of unevenness to the quality of the stories

– Brian Lowry

Audience and critics have been raving about the screenplay the dialogues and performances. The only negative thing Best of Netflix Canada could find about the show is that it is a bit dark for its own good. Toward season 3 the show’s following started to waver but season 4 recaptured it.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

Best of Netflix Canada - q?_encoding=UTF8&ASIN=B019DTO7KC&Format=_SL250_&ID=AsinImage&MarketPlace=CA&ServiceVersion=20070822&WS=1&tag=canaandchil-20Best of Netflix Canada - ir?t=canaandchil-20&l=li3&o=15&a=B019DTO7KC

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (UKS) is a US sitcom comedy directed by Tina Fey (30 Rock) and a Netflix original which was originally done for NBC. best of Netflix Canada has rated it highly.

Best of Netflix Canada found that 13 episodes were streamed for Season 1 in 2015. The title role, Kimmy Schmidt (Ellie Kemper), along with three other women, had been living in an underground bunker for 15 years. The women are rescued and brought to the NY City. Refusing to play a victim, a Spunky Kimmy decides to stay in NY and tries to get a life. The show get on a yellow hot air balloon as Kimmy tackles the loud beyond the bunker world with naïveness of an 8th grader and clueless optimism of a baby woman. The kooky tribal NY City full of troops and trends and a few credible human beings makes the show knee slapping funny.

A cross of deadpan and madcap. character like Titus (Tituss Burgess Andromeda), Kimmy’s gay roommate; Lillian Kaushtupper (Carol Kane), Kimmy ‘s odd landlady and of course Jacqueline White (Jane Krakowski) Kimmy’s employer and a wealthy and insecure socialite; add further zing. Second season keeps the same central hook of clueless Kimmy, now slightly adapted to the post-bunker world, while the show aspires to be a musical but doesn’t quite get there.

THE GOOD

The show’s full doze of “originality” and lack of darkness despite that the show’s lead is a cult survivor. Some viewers found the show “so funny that they rewound certain funny bits” because they missed some jokes in the fit of laughter.

THE BAD

“same deadpan as 30 Rock” and has high octane with unnecessary references to peculiar pop-culture and a bunch of weird names.

– Various Critics

Best of Netflix Canada feels that the style of the movie is really like 30 Rock.
Best of Netflix Canada found out that one set of people were mad about a few elements in the first season calling it racist and antisexist and accused it of promoting stereotype due to elements like references to Native American, Vietnamese accent, and Japanese people as well.

OUR VERDICT

Best of Netflix Canada recommends that the exuberant character of Kimmy and her cotton candy wardrobe makes it an absolute bonbon of a series– Best of Netflix Canada feels Unbreakable will hook you up and have you in fit of laughter a few minutes out. The show is also developing a musical element and it is downright funny and joke come like rapid fire rounds.
Best of Netflix Canada recommends that the show is a good watch for people looking for a few fresh jokes and a few laughs to wash their souls after watching Orange is a New Black.

Best of Netflix Canada believes that there is hardly any story and all the movie offer is gory, gritty and indigestible vampire stuff where people eat dead people and drink blood of their fellows.

OUR VERDICT

Best of Netflix Canada feels that the show is very graphic and a bit of this and a bit of that and nothing, all at the same time.

One thing that makes it the best of Netflix Canada is that the show is very different from whatever has been screened on the subject before and uses old European myths and legends and bit of Sci Fi to inject some fresh blood in the genre. People who buy vampirism, True Blood and Hannibal brands may enjoyed Hemlock Groove’s gipsy culture and vivid depictions of blood sucking mutated vampires and deformed- back- from- the -dead characters. Overall, Best of Netflix Canada recommends that the show is very graphic and gory and if you can’t handle it don’t watch it.
